According to the Handbuch the origin of this variety is unknown; it seems to be very common in the Hanover area; we received it from various places in Germany with great conformity.

SHAPE: regular; the Handbuch mentions the apple to be round and high occasionally, but we have not yet seen such specimen.

SIZE: fourth grade.

EYE: usually closed, also half closed, long and pointed sepals, often broken, sothat the eye shows open; the basin is wide and almost level, a little russeting, and is surrounded by little folds.

STALK: very short, hardly 10 mms long, often no more than a fleshy bump, in a shallow, green cavity.

The COLOUR is warm yellow, with grey, star-shaped specks and russet spots; no red.

The FLESH is almost yellow, fine, rather firm, later soft, juicy, sweetish sour, very aromatic, almost equal to the normal Goldpippeling. The core is medium, cells are small, with beautiful, coffee-brown pips.

TIME OF USE: late December - April, not to be picked before October 10 - 15; first grade for dessert.

The TREE does well as a pyramid, crown or espalier; very fertile; the twigs are medium, strong, olive-green with brown, with large unevenly spread lenticels; the buds stand off; the shoots are olive-green with brown, woolly; the leaf stalks are 20 - 30 mms long; the leaves oblong oval, regular and finely serrated, pointed, dull green, a bit woolly; the tree is recognizable by the very regular structure of all its parts.

Highly recommended, especially for pyramids and espaliers (palmets, cordons, etc.), also suitable as a standard tree.
