The origin is unknown to us; we received it from the Horticultural Society in London.
SHAPE: very regular.
SIZE: fourth grade.
EYE: usually closed, shallow basin with some little folds.
STALK: 10 - 15 mms long, woody, often with a fleshy knob, in a narrow, shallow, russeted cavity.
The COLOUR is yellowish green, at the sun side orange-red, often finely striped, with light brown lenticels. The skin is rather smooth.
The FLESH is whitish yellow; yellow veins, especially around the core, firm, juicy, very particular aroma. The core is medium sized, rather large cells with thick, dark brown pips.
TIME OF USE: December - April; first grade for dessert.
The TREE is a moderate grower and bears well. The twigs are medium sized, brownish olive-green, with many small, round lenticels; the buds are conical and snub, standing off, placed on a flat rise; the shoots are light violet-brown, with small, grey lenticels, some thin wool at the end; leaf stalks are 20 - 30 mms long; leaves are egg-shaped, coarsely serrated, pointed, a bit twisted at the tip, light green.
We recommend this variety as pyramid and dwarf tree.
