Dietzer Goldreinette    (Handbuch, I, page 509; oberdieck, Anleitung, page 178).

The Handbuch mentions this variety as a seedling won by Mr. biber from Dietz in Nassau (Germany); we received the same apple from VAN MONS' society and Mr. oberdieck.

SHAPE: very regular.

SIZE: fourth grade.

EYE: The Handbuch claims the eye as being wide open, we found it always closed, with short, thick, horn-like sepals, in a broad, shallow basin, surrounded by little folds.

STALK: 10 mms long, fleshy, usually bent, in a shallow cavity without russeting.

The COLOUR at harvest time is greenish yellow, showing red flames at the sun side, with greenish grey, sometimes star-shaped lenticels, seldom any russeting. The skin is smooth rather than rough.

The FLESH is cream-coloured, with thin green veins, firm, fine, aromatic, juicy, pleasant. Small core, small cells with perfect, dark brown pips.

TIME OF USE: December - April; first grade for dessert.

The TREE is a moderate and regular grower, and rather fertile. The twigs are slender, growing straight up, light violet with olive-green, small, oval, unevenly spread lenticels; the buds are flat and broad; the shoots are slender, rough, hardly woolly, olive-brown; the leaf stalks are 25 - 30 mms long, rather thick; the leaves are broad oval, sharply serrated, pointed, clear glossy green.

We recommend this variety as a pyramid.
