Abstract

Nutrient inputs and outputs in a catchment area of undisturbed forest were compared with those in a catchment area of silviculturally treated forest in Surinam. Treatment was according to the Celos Silvicultural System. The sustainability of this system on poor tropical soils was tested. Treatment slightly increased nutrient outflow by creek water, but even in the treated area nutrient outflow was still smaller than nutrient inflow by rain water.
