Agonistic behaviour during experimental social encounters between 2 unfamiliar pigs was studied in 10-week-old pigs reared in pens of 3.5 msuperscript 2 or 6.7 msuperscript 2. In 3.5 msuperscript 2 pens, pigs which became dominant in the experimental social encounters exhibited more abnormal agonistic behaviour than pigs reared in 6.7 msuperscript 2 pens.
