The variety was sent to us by Mr. DAUVESSE from Orleans, France.

SHAPE: as illustrated, especially in section, illustration 21b; shows no variations.

SIZE: fourth grade, sometimes a bit larger.

EYE: usually half closed, with long, bent sepals which stay green; regular, shallow basin.

STALK: medium long, woody, in regular, narrow cavity, no russeting.

COLOUR as illustrated; very shiny, often more livelier red than in the illustration, covered with a thin whitish bloom, looks waxy.

The FLESH is white, with red veins under the skin and around the core; firm, fine, pleasantly tart.

TIME OF USE: July - August. First grade for dessert.

The TREE is a moderate grower, although stronger than the Roode Zomer Calville, is very fertile, makes thin, slender branches, a bit woolly at the top; most suitable for pyramid and espalier; it is a beautiful apple and recommended as a summer apple.
