Most probably from the southern part of Russia, distributed and known all over Europe; the variety is in our possession for many years already.

SHAPE: as illustrated, but seldom as high as ill. 24a, many variations, much more than the Roode Astrakaner.

SIZE: third grade, also somewhat higher as illustrated.

EYE: closed, sepals long, light green, woolly; narrow basin surrounded by small ribs and folds, the apple can show uneven ribs all over.

STALK: medium long, woolly, green, usually fleshy, in a medium deep russeted cavity.

The COLOUR is as illustrated, when fully ripe creamy white. While still on the tree covered by a whitish bloom. Stripes are fine and not so many as on the Siberischen Glasappel. Fruits from the shadow side of the tree show no flames or stripes at all. Many small whitish green lenticels.

The FLESH is white, fine, soft, pleasantly sour, aromatic. The apple has a fine scent.

TIME OF USE: August. Second grade for dessert, also recommended for the kitchen.

The TREE grows moderately, is very fertile and therefore will not be very large; summer twigs are much thinner, and leaves much smaller than with the Glasappel, ripening at the same time; flowers, too, are smaller and a bit more pink; suitable for standard tree and pyramid; a very good summer apple, worth having because of its fertility.
