oete Zomer-Aagt (Beschrijving der vruchtsoorten [Description of fruit varieties], second series, N°. 149),

Zoete Tulpappel.

Origin: unknown, most probably Dutch. It has been here for as long as we can remember.

SHAPE: occasionally a bit higher as in our illustration, and then slightly curved inwards towards the basin (see No. 27 the Zomer-Aagt).

SIZE: third grade, usually a bit larger than our illustration.

EYE: closed; sepals are broad and pointed; narrow basin with five ribs often stretching to the base of the apple.

STALK: rather long, usually woody, sometimes fleshy, in a narrow, hardly russeted cavity.

The COLOUR is sometimes more redly flamed than in our illustration, covered with small, grey lenticels. The bloom, so clear on the Zomer-Aagt (No. 27), is very rare on this variety.

The FLESH is white-yellow, rather fine, not firm, rather juicy, sweet; the core is big, pips are medium, many and coffee-coloured.

TIME OF USE: August and September, sometimes lasting into October; second grade for the kitchen; we feel that the variety is only of value for the pomologist and the collector of varieties.

The TREE is a moderate grower, will not be large, but will bear fruit early. Summertwigs are light brown with some oblong, grey lenticels; buds are flat, flowers are medium sized and very attractive, leaves are long and oval, slightly corrugated on the edges. The variety is suitable for standard and half sized tree.
